User demonstrations and case studies to form part of GÉANT participation at Europe’s leading ICT forum

GÉANT – the pan-European high-speed research network – will showcase users from the world health community as part of its participation at ICT2010, Europe’s most visible forum for ICT (Information Communication Technology) research and innovation, to be held from September 27-29 at the Brussels Expo.

The EU-funded neuGRID and Sim-e-Child projects are helping to transform the speed of research and depth of collaboration amongst practitioners in neurodegenerative diseases and paediatric health respectively. These projects are able to harness the power of grid computing – a distributed computing environment which brings numerous computing resources into one virtual space – using the GÉANT network as the underlying layer on which the grid sits. This computing power greatly accelerates research and enables a far greater depth of collaboration amongst practitioners and researchers. Representatives of each project will be available at the GÉANT stand for the duration of the event.

As well as showcasing support for world health, the GÉANT stand will also feature work with other research disciplines, for example the FEDERICA project – an initiative to implement an experimental, scalable infrastructure on which new internet technology and protocols can be trialled, providing information for development of next generation networks and the future Internet – and EMSA, the European Maritime Safety Agency which is using GÉANT to distribute satellite images for the detection and monitoring of oil slicks.

Visitors to the GÉANT Stand 3273 can also learn more about data networking services developed within the GÉANT project, such as Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) and performance monitoring tools, as well as take part in the GÉANT Exhibition Trail – a fun way to learn more about GÉANT and the networks, projects and initiatives it works with.

Why not join us in Brussels to learn more?
